Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s “Enigmatic Variations,” directed by Sotiris Tsafoulias and Pygmalion Dadakaridis, returns to the Lycabettus Theater after tremendous success and sold-out performances. Yiannis Bezos and Pygmalion Dadakaridis star in “Enigmatic Variations,” a play where an interview leads to a harsh game of truth, simultaneously revealing a tender and sensitive world. Sotiris Tsafoulias and Pygmalion Dadakaridis meet as directors, confronting through the play themes of division, isolation, human relationships, and the eternal mysteries of love.
Play Synopsis
Abel Znorko (Yiannis Bezos) is a Nobel Prize-winning author who lives alone, secluded in Rosvanøy, a small island in the Norwegian Sea, avoiding everything and especially people. Having recently published his 21st book to immense success, he agrees to give an interview to Erik Larsen (Pygmalion Dadakaridis), a journalist who has been pursuing him for a long time. Was Abel Znorko’s choice of this particular journalist truly random, and was Erik Larsen’s choice of this specific author equally random? What connects the two men, and what paths will they be forced to traverse and overcome as plot twists unfold, one after another, in a story where the roles of cat and mouse constantly shift?
