Information:
The State Folk Ensemble “Trakia” from Plovdiv was founded in 1974. Its creator and inspirer was the renowned choreographer and pedagogue Professor Kiril Djenev. Together with some of the most prominent authors in the field of folklore, he shaped the unique image of the ensemble, which remains iconic to this day.
With its innovative ideas for presenting folklore works, the “Trakia” Ensemble captivated audiences from its very first concerts. Their performances transformed into spectacular showcases of Bulgarian culture and art, conveying the emotion of Bulgarian music, songs, and dances.
Five decades later, after thousands of concerts in Bulgaria and in over 60 countries worldwide, “Trakia” continues to preserve and promote Bulgarian folklore. A significant contribution to this comes from the performers who, for generations, have passed on their love for the traditions, customs, and legends of the Bulgarian people.
The role of the State Folk Ensemble “Trakia” in the preservation and development of musical and dance art from all folklore regions of Bulgaria is of exceptional importance. The retention of authentic themes and rituals from the Bulgarian calendar, combined with contemporary artistic interpretations, is among the most vital elements for safeguarding the identity of Bulgarian traditions.
“Trakia” is not only an emblem for the city of Plovdiv but also a unique Bulgarian achievement on the global stage.
